As the Medical Director of Windber Hospice & Palliative Care in Windber, Pennsylvania, Dr. Warshel warmly and enthusiastically opened the door for me to create a Flower Essence program for Windber Hospice. In May of 2006, I offered an in-service for the hospice staff, and Dr. Warshel soon began offering Flower Essence support to patients and their loved ones in her care. Hospice patients experience immediate benefits from the gentle and powerful support of Flower Essences. Those receiving this lovely form of support are offered a deep sense of peace and comfort, enabling them to move through their time of transition with ease and grace. Family members and loved ones of those receiving end-of-life care appreciate receiving Flower Essences that assist them in being more fully present with their loved ones in strong and soulful ways. They frequently experience this support as strengthening their heart, easing their pain and sorrow, and assisting them in the process of letting go. Hospice nurses deepen and maintain their own well-being with Flower Essences that facilitate strong and healthy boundaries. This sense of personal well-being allows them to remain open and sensitive to those to whom they administer care, serving them from the fullness in their heart rather than from over-loaded or devitalized states. The Flower Essence program at Windber Hospice continues to deepen and expand, while also receiving wonderful feedback from those receiving the support of the Flower Essences, including hospice patients and their loved ones, as well as the hospice staff.
